If you choose iron-on labels, you choose optimal ease of use. You order them with your own text and choose your desired colors and apply them quickly and easily to your clothes or other textiles. In this blog we give you 4 tips for applying iron-on labels.
1. A hot iron
When you go to apply your personalized iron-on labels, make sure your iron is well hot. This is because the adhesive layer of the label must fuse with the fabric you are ironing it on. Therefore, put your iron on setting 3 (linen) and do not use steam. We recommend a traditional iron with a stainless steel soleplate and where the iron does not automatically adapt to the fabric being ironed on.
Should the labels come off in the wash, it means that they have not been ironed in hot enough and the adhesive layer has not fused with the fabric. You can then try ironing in the labels again.
2. No iron? Use a hair straightener!
Don’t have a traditional iron at home but do have a hair straightener? You can also use your straightener to apply your labels. Set the temperature of your straightener to 200 degrees Celsius and always use a cotton cloth between both sides of the straightener and the garment and iron-on label.
3. Rib or stretch fabric? Attach the labels in the right direction
Do you want to attach the iron-on labels to a rib fabric or to a stretch fabric? Then make sure you attach the labels in the right direction. For ribbed fabrics, place the label facing the direction of the rib (not crosswise). That way, the label’s adhesive layer will have sufficient grip on the fabric. With stretch fabric, attach the label in the direction that does not stretch. This is because the fabric of the label itself does not stretch, so if you do attach the label to a stretch fabric, the label or your fabric may be damaged or your label may come off. Does the fabric stretch in all directions? Then it is better to choose a sew-in label.
4. Follow the ironing instructions, iron long enough and use a cotton cloth if necessary
Our iron-on labels always come with ironing instructions. You will find these on the packaging of your labels, and on our website. Make sure to hold the iron for +- 15 seconds on the labels, applying firm pressure. Any traces of adhesive around the label will disappear completely after ironing. On cotton, ironing the labels should not cause any problems. If the fabric is more delicate, we recommend placing a cotton cloth between the iron and fabric + label.

What makes your own product even more personal and professional than a label with your own logo? You can easily design your own label with logo by following the steps on the web page. Are you still unsure about what the steps are? Then we are happy to help with this explanation. It’s quite a long blog, because we want to explain everything as complete as possible, but of course you can also go directly to the step where you need help!
Your own logo
In order to start designing your own label, you will need a ready-to-use, custom logo, consisting of a maximum of 2 colors (1 ground color and 1 text/figure color).
You can design a logo yourself, or hire a logo designer for that project. Nominette is specialized in weaving labels in taffeta quality. We are not graphic designers and therefore cannot design logos. You can upload the file with your ready-to-use logo on our site. It is important that this is a logo without copyright, or one that you own the rights to. To upload, your file must be in one of the accepted file formats for our website. This can be a tif, eps, psd, jpg, gif, png, bmp or svg file, and the file size cannot exceed 4000 pixels. Unfortunately a PDF file does not work.
Step 1: Choose a label width
Once you have your own logo file, start at step 1 on the website by choosing the label width. The label width determines what width the band will get from your label. You can choose between the label width 15mm, 25mm or 40mm. If you have a very fine, detailed logo, we recommend that you choose the highest possible label width. This ensures that your logo appears on your label as clearly as possible. Good to know is that each label width has its own label length. The dimensions of each label are listed in the simulation under step 4, in the turquoise frame. We work with standard, fixed dimensions, so these cannot be adjusted.
Choose a label width
Step 2: Choose a landscape or portrait label
In this step you choose, as the name implies, for a landscape or a portrait label. Your logo is always displayed horizontally on the label.
Landscape and portrait label
Step 3: Choose your type of label
Depending on whether you chose a portrait or landscape label in step 2, you can choose different types of labels in step 3. We will explain these further below.
End fold or middle fold
All our labels are supplied on a roll. You cut them on the indicated cutting line. For a label with an end fold, fold the ends of the label after cutting it. After folding, the label can be stitched on the left and right side.
This way the label will lie flat on the garment. An end fold label is often used on the back of a garment, or for stitching onto a garment.
Left a label with endfold, right a label with middlefold
A label with a middle fold is often processed in a seam of a product/garment, for example on the side of a pillowcase. After you have folded the label in the middle (for example with the help of an iron) you can slide the label a bit into the open seam. Then the seam is stitched closed with the label in between. With a label with a middle fold, it is important that you insert the label into your product before you close the seam completely.
Landscape, horizontal label
With a landscape label you can choose from 4 types of labels, which are listed in the drop-down menu at step 3. One type of landscape label with an end fold, or 3 types of labels with a centre fold. With a horizontal label with centre fold you can choose your logo on one side (the left side) and the other side blank. You can choose your logo on the left side and your own text with washing symbols on the other side, or you can choose a label with your logo placed on both sides. This will be exactly the same logo, 2 different logos on one label is unfortunately not possible at Nominette, but this is possible at our sister company EE Label Factory.
The options for a horizontal label
Portrait, vertical label
Our standing, vertical labels are only available with centre fold. For this type of label you can choose from 4 options (listed in the drop-down menu of step 3); your logo mirrored on both sides of the label, your logo non-mirrored on both sides of the label, your logo on one side of the label and your logo on one side with text and washing symbols on the other side of the label.
The options for a vertical label
Washing symbols
If you choose the type of label with washing symbols and your own text on the other side of your label, you can enter the text you want on this side in step 5, after uploading your logo. Often text is placed here such as “handmade by … in …” or the composition of the fabrics of your product. These text lines have a maximum number of characters per text line. The font is also fixed and cannot be changed.
In step 6 you then choose the washing symbols that apply to your product. If you choose washing symbols, it is legally required to enter all 5 washing symbols. You cannot therefore choose to mention one washing symbol, for example only the symbol for ironing. You will then have to state all washing symbols, with the specifications that apply to your product. If certain washing symbols do not apply, select the relevant symbol with the cross through it.

Step 4: Upload your logo
After choosing your label type, you can upload your logo file in step 4. The file must be in one of the allowed file formats. This can be a tif, eps, psd, jpg, gif, png, bmp or svg file, and the file size cannot exceed 4000 pixels. A PDF file does not work. Once you have uploaded your file, your logo will appear in the simulation within a few moments (turquoise frame). It may be that your logo is not immediately displayed in the correct colors after uploading. Don’t panic, later on, at steps 7 and 8 you choose your desired colors.
Simulation of an uploaded logo
Help, something isn’t right!
It is very important to check the simulation in the turquoise frame. What you see here will be woven exactly like this. Do you see anything in the simulation that doesn’t quite match your logo? Or do you only see a colored area? Then there may be something wrong with your logo file.
Example of an error in the simulation
For example, is your logo displayed too small on the label in the simulation? This may be because there is too much empty space around your logo. We advise you to cut away the empty space around your logo / file as much as possible before uploading it.
If your logo is still not legible in the simulation after that, your logo may be too detailed for the label height you have chosen. Then choose a larger label, simplify your logo or make the lines in your logo bolder. It is also possible that the contrast in your logo is too low, so that your logo is not recognised. Then increase the contrast in your logo file, and upload your logo again. You can also convert your file to black and white, so that the contrast is stronger. After uploading, choose one of our standard colors in steps 7 and 8.
Example of an unclear logo in the simulation
Step 5 and 6: Optional – Choose your text and washing symbols
These steps are optional, and you only need to complete these, if you have chosen the type of label “center fold with text and washing symbols on the other side”. For an explanation about this specific label, see step 3 under “washing symbols”.
Step 7 and 8: choose your ground and text/logo color
After correctly uploading your logo (and optionally completing steps 5 and 6), choose the desired background color in step 7, and your text / symbol color in step 8. Nominette weaves in 2 colors, and with a set of standard, own colors. There is an assortment of base colors and an assortment of text / symbol colors. Unfortunately, these colors cannot be reversed. This has to do with the weaving technique. So a ground color cannot be selected as the text color, and vice versa.
Choose your colors
Almost finished
After choosing the colors, your label design is almost ready. Below the color choice you choose the number of pieces you want. Nominette weaves from 100 pieces per design and color combination. Less than 100 pieces is unfortunately not possible. If you have a promotional code, enter it below the choice of quantity, and click “click and order”.
Choose your number
You will then be taken to the page of your shopping cart. We strongly recommend that you check your order carefully by clicking “click here for a preview”. Now you will see the simulation of your order again and you can check whether everything went well. If that is in order, you can complete the order by entering your details and completing the payment.
Check your order in the shopping cart
Done!
After finalising the order, you will receive an order confirmation via mail within a few minutes. In the attachment of this e-mail you will find the invoice, which contains the simulation again. Please double check these carefully as well. Your order will now automatically proceed to production.
If, after reading this blog, you still have questions about designing a label with logo, please contact our customer service before placing the order. Unfortunately, we cannot change an order that is already in production. Did you not receive an email with order confirmation from us? Please do not hesitate to contact us. Are you looking for a different type of label than a label with a logo? In the blog ‘What kind of label do I choose?’ we explain all our types of labels.
We hope this manual has helped you order your labels, and we hope you enjoy creating your own logo labels!
Not quite sure what kind of label you want? In this blog we hope to help you a little, because we can imagine that it is not always easy to choose from our wide range of labels. We are happy to tell you more about our different types of labels.
At Nominette we weave different types of labels in taffet quality. When you surf to our website to design a label, the kind of label is the first choice you should make. For example, do you want a label with logo, an iron-on label or rather a sew-on label. Below we provide an explanation of each type of label.
Choose a sew-on label if you want a label with text that you can stitch on both sides. Our sew-on labels are available with a label height/bandwidth of 10 or 14 millimetres. This kind of label does not have a fixed length. The length of this label grows with the text and the chosen font. On our website you can choose from different, standard fonts for the sew-on and iron-on labels.
There is always 16 millimetres of blank space on both sides of a sewing label to fold and stitch in. All our labels are supplied on a roll, suitable for cutting and processing yourself. We recommend that you cut the labels with pinking scissors and fold the ends of the label over before inserting to prevent fraying. You can also add one of our many symbols to our sew-on and iron-on labels, such as a heart, Instagram symbol or a ball of wool. We have more than a 100 symbols to choose from to make your labels even more fun and personal.
An iron-on label has a thermo-adhesive adhesive layer on the back. You can easily iron this type of label into your product in 15 seconds, by ironing with hard pressure, without steam. If you are ironing on nylon or other fabrics that do not tolerate an iron, we recommend placing a cloth between the label and the iron. An ironing instruction is included with your order.
Our iron-on labels are, just like the sew-in labels, available with the label height/band width of 10 or 14 millimetres. This type of label does not have a fixed length, but grows with the length of your text and the chosen font. There is 8 millimetres of blank space on both sides of an iron-on label.
Our clothing labels have a fixed label height/bandwidth of 25 millimetres and 5 fixed fonts. With a clothing label you can choose from two folding methods: a centre fold or an end fold. You can see the differences in the images below.
Left a label with end fold, right a label with centre fold
Our end fold labels are intended to be used flat in your product, where you first fold the ends and then sew. The labels with centre fold are meant to stick out somewhere on the side, for example from a pillowcase. Would you like a more detailed explanation of a label with an end fold or centre fold? And the difference between a portrait and a landscape label? We explain the exact differences in this blog.
Left a clothinglabel with endfold, right a clothinglabel with centre fold
If you want a label with your own design, logo or font, choose a label with logo. On our site you can choose from 3 label heights, 15 millimetres, 25 millimetres or 40 millimetres. Easily go through the steps on the website, choose a portrait or landscape label (explanation) and choose a centre fold or end fold.
End fold or centre fold?
Just like with the clothing labels, you can choose a label with an end fold or a centre fold for a label with a logo. With a label with centre fold you have the choice to place your logo on one side, on both sides, or your logo on the left, and text and / or washing symbols on the right. The length of a label with logo with end fold is 6 centimetres, with 1 cm of folding / stitching space at both ends. The length of a label with centre fold logo is 10 centimetres, leaving 1 centimetre at both ends.
Left a label with logo with end fold, right a label with logo with centre fold
At step 4 you can upload your logo file. Once you have done this you will see a simulation of your label. It is important to check the simulation carefully, because what you see in the simulation will be woven exactly like this.
Since it is a woven product, it is important that the logo you upload is not too fine / detailed. If the simulation displays something that does not match your logo and does not display the desired result, adjust your logo file and upload again. Increasing the contrast of your logo and cutting out empty space around the logo often helps.
Simulation label with logo
Our labels are woven in 2 colours; 1 base / background colour and a text / figure colour. We recommend uploading your logo in 2 colours, with a high contrast. Because the better the contrast in your logo, the more clearly your logo will be visible on the label. Once you’ve uploaded your logo, it will appear in blue on white. Later in the process you can change the colours by choosing from our range of colours.
Do you need size labels for your clothing or brand? You can order our size labels from 200 pieces. You can divide this number over 2 sizes (for example 100 labels with size M, and 100 labels with size L). Just like our other labels, the size labels are supplied on a roll, suitable for cutting and folding yourself. The size is visible on both sides of the label. You can easily sew these labels directly into your product, or sew it to the bottom of another clothing label.
Are you looking for a personalized text ribbon? At Nominette, you can design your own text ribbon from 10 meters. Super nice to decorate a personal gift, for example. The possibilities for a text ribbon are endless. Our text ribbon is available in 10 or 14mm label height/band width. Your design / text on the ribbon will be repeated at least 10 times. So you receive 10 lanes of at least 1 meter.
Choose one of our fonts, determine your text and possibly symbols and select your colours, or choose one of our fixed colour combinations.

You have your own clothing store, studio, webshop or you are just creative and would like your own woven labels in your products. Super nice, as this will make your product more recognizable and professional. But what type of label to choose? A label with end fold or centre fold? And what should you pay attention to when choosing the type of label? We are happy to help you with this.
When designing a label, it is important to determine how and where you want to incorporate it into your product. With our labels with logo and our clothing labels you have various options; a label with end fold or centre fold. We’ll explain the differences further below.
Label with end fold
For a label with an end fold, fold the ends of the label over. This type of label is often used on the back of a garment, or to stitch onto a garment. After folding (you have to do it manually because our labels are supplied on roll) the label can be stitched on the left and right side. This way the label will lie flat on the garment.
Label with end fold
Label with centre fold
A label with a centre fold is attached in a seam of a product/garment, for example on the side of a pillowcase. After you have folded the label in the middle (for example with the help of an iron), there is room to slide the label into the intermediate seam. Then the product and therefore also the label are stitched.
Label with centre fold
Centre fold: landscape or portrait?
With a label with a centre fold you can choose a landscape or portrait label. What exactly is the difference between a landscape or portrait label? With a landscape label, the label is in horizontal direction, so in width. With a portrait label, the label is vertical, in height. The logo and/or your text remains horizontally placed on the label with both options.
Landscape on the left, portrait on the right
Now that you know how you want to process your label and you have chosen a label type, you can proceed with the design of your label. If you are still unsure about the type of label you want, for example a clothing label or a sew-on label, then stay tuned. A detailed explanation will follow soon.
